Sprocket was involved in PALS (Pet Access League Society) for nearly 6
years. One year at a senior's nursing home and 5 at the Alberta Children's
Hospital in Calgary.
Sprocket was a natural for this. She was well trained and loved to be with
people. She was not afraid of anything she came across - whether it was a
person using crutches or a wheel chair or a bed moving down the hallway.
She loved everyone she visited with.
Some of our memories of her:
Visits with autistics kids where she could get a reaction by giving me a
"kiss" on command or just by being this warm furry creature who wanted to be
close to them.
Visiting a sick child and hearing from the child that they had a pet at home
who they missed.
Visiting a long term child patient who feared dogs and who slowly went from
just wanting to see her from a distance to becoming accepting of Sprocket
and giving her a few pets.
Kids doing "high fives" with Sprocket - this was her signature trick for the
kids.
